Introduction
These pages serve to define the structure of the group of astronomers
that are involved in the variability of B-stars to be observed with the
MONS satellite. For further information about the MONS project, see
the
MONS home page.
Why do we need to go to space to observe the oscillations in hot stars
? Well, there are clear indications that many more modes are excited
in such stars compared to those that are visible in ground-based photometry.
In order to perform seismology, it is necessary to obtain the complete
frequency spectrum.
We expect that many of the kappa-driven oscillation modes
in B-stars will have amplitudes sufficiently large to be observed
by means of the MONS star trackers. Therefore, our group will mainly
be working with data from the two star trackers. On the other hand, the
MONS main camera will also devote 2 months of observing time to B stars.
The different MONS Groups
In order to facilitate the preparation and work with the MONS satellite,
5 groups have been established according to the type of stars. These are
Each group will work individually and pass on a summary of their
discussions to the MONS team
in Århüs. Of course, several topics are common to the groups
and inter-group discussion is strongly encouraged.
Below is a description of the different teams within the
B-Star Group.
Teams of the B-Star Group
In order to guarantee an efficient working of the group, several
teams have been constructed according to the types of B-stars. The responsibles
for these teams are listed below.
Note that our group is divided according to the type of B-stars because
it is the most natural way. The Solar-like
Oscillations Group 's subdivisions are based on more general
topics (e.g. period analysis, modeling, simulations, etc.) which are of
course also relevant to the B-stars, so we advise you to visit that web
page as well.
Discussions and action items
As the MONS mission develops further, our group will take action on certain
topics according to the planning of the mission. Action items can be proposed
at any time to the PI by the group members.
The communication between the different group members of the
B-Star Group is done through e-mail discussions on certain topics.
The PI of the group will send issues to be discussed/worked at by e-mail.
The idea is that each group member submits her/his idea to the PI,
as well as the work being done in the framework of the preparation of the
MONS mission. The PI will write a report on each of the topics to the MONS
team in Århüs. These reports are accessible below.

Welcome !
Anybody who is interested in working with MONS data of B-stars
is welcome to join the B-star group as we move along. Please contact
the PI, Conny Aerts,
to express your interest in becoming a member of the B-star group or for
more information.
