Abstract of the talk by Xander Tielens, "Ecology of the Milky Way Galaxy"
Abstract is available only in Dutch!
Here are some impressions of the lecture by Prof. Xander Tielens.

A view on the audience before the start of the lecture. The auditorium was well filled again.

Xander Tielens begins his lecture. He expounded on the cosmic matter cycle, how all the material that is lost by dying stars, is recycled into new generations of stars. Also interstellar dust and how
its physics on the microscopic scale influences the structure of the cosmos on a macroscopic scale, played a major role in his talk. The oldest material we can find in the solar system are tiny
pre-solar dust grains contained in meteorites, which are older than the Sun and the Earth!

Xander Tielens during his lecture. His talks are always very vivid, as can also be seen on these pictures:

The light echo from the camera flash reflects off the lecture room's walls and ceiling just as the light echo from a "flash" of the star V838 Monocerotis reflects off the dust shells that the star has
expelled previously.

There where many questions on the "Ecology of the Milky Way Galaxy" at the end of Xander's talk. A sure sign that the audience could well follow the speaker, and was very interested in the topic.
I think we all enjoyed the talk very much!
